Candle Care 101
Now you're probably thinking, "Paul, it's a candle, you light it, boom, job done." To ensure you get the maximum benefit from your Love From Paul candle and make sure it reaches the expected burn time, I have a few tips...
Have you ever found that some of your candles form a hole down the centre leaving a ring of unused wax around the edge of the vessel and a wick that burns out quickly? First world problems, yes, but it's super annoying and a terrible waste of money. It's called "candle tunnelling" and it can be prevented.
The key to preventing "tunnelling" lies in the initial burn and the length of the wick.
Burn Baby Burn...
At the first use, make sure that you leave your candle burning long enough until the whole surface is a pool of gorgeous, aroma-infused, glistening, molten wax. This is likely 1-2 hours, depending on the size of the candle.
If you only let it burn for say 10-15 minutes, only a small pool will form around the wick. The next time you light, the wax will kind of remember, and that part will be softer than the wax that surrounds it. So, the next time you light the wick, that softer little pool will take less time to melt than the harder wax that surrounds it and...you'll get tunnelling. I know... life-changing revelation! You're welcome!
Trim That Wick People...
Next, make sure you keep the wick trimmed to about 5mm, but make sure that no wick debris falls into the wax, as this can cause sparking and could be a fire hazard; safety first, people!
Preserve The Aroma...
Lit or unlit, Love From Paul candles smell great, but I recommend putting the lids back on in between burns. I did a little experiment and stored some samples of my candles for a year with the lid on. When I opened them again, they were fresh and the aromas were preserved. Candles with lids left off will lose their scent over time. Once I blow out my candles, I keep them open until the surface of the wax has solidified again, then I put the lid back on.
As a reminder, my candles are:-
- Made in the UK, and the packaging can be recycled.
- They are paraben-free and are made from plant wax, from soya and rapeseed.
- They contain no animal products, including beeswax.
- They are infused with high-quality perfume and essential oils formulated to help boost your sense of wellbeing without being overpowering.
- Our paper core, cotton wicks burn cleanly with hardly any soot produced - your white ceiling will thank you!
Lastly, please use candles responsibly and never leave an open flame unattended. Keep away from anything flammable and keep out of reach of children and pets.
Most of all - enjoy!
