My aim with my print work is to capture some of the themes I speak about as a coach and motivational speaker. Ideas such as thriving, calm and well-being are close to my heart, and they are expressed here in this piece.
This print began life as a photograph I took in the grounds of one of my favourite places in the world, the Russell Cotes Art Gallery and Museum in Bournemouth. Tucked away in a sheltered grove near the grotto, there is a fountain and pond that I return to every summer, especially to see the water lilies in bloom.
From my photograph, I created a stylised drawing, then exposed it onto a screen to make this print, building up layers of colour. I painted the background freehand in Indian ink to express the complex movement of water, then exposed that painting onto a screen too.
The result is both a celebration of a flower I have long loved, and an expression of themes that are important in my work as a coach, advocating for wellness, calm and thriving.
