Water lilies have always been one of my favourite flowers. I find them utterly enchanting, a beautiful symbol of peace, stillness and potential. Rising from the depths to bloom serenely on the surface, the water lily reminds us that beauty often emerges quietly, in its own time.
This simple yet lovely print began life as a photograph I took in the grounds of one of my favourite places in the world, the Russell Cotes Art Gallery and Museum in Bournemouth. Tucked away in a sheltered grove near the grotto, there is a fountain and pond that I return to every summer, especially to see the water lilies in bloom.
I created a stylised drawing from my photograph, then exposed it onto a screen to make this print. The result is a gentle celebration of a flower I have long loved, and of a place that continues to inspire me. If you are ever in Bournemouth, please do give the Russell Cotes a visit. It is a truly special place.
A quiet tribute to calm waters, hidden gardens and the beauty of becoming.

These prints carry my determination to master technique in screen printing and the patience we need when we are learning something new. I played with colour and the placement of line; as such, each print varies just a little.
